Is your organisation culturally safe and trauma informed?
Take a moment to read through the questions below, and consider if your organisation is a “yes”, “no” or “unsure”.
Q1. Do you work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples or other First Nations Peoples?
Q2. Do you have a Reconciliation Plan and is it something that you revisit regularly?
Q3. Does your organisation have a system in place to help employees understand and protect themselves against vicarious trauma?
Q4. When you enter your workplace or log onto your online communication platforms, do First Nations people see signs that you are a safe place to visit and engage with?
Q5. Does your workplace practice within a culturally safe trauma informed framework offering the principles of safety?
Q6. Have your staff been trained in how trauma is different for First Nations Peoples?
Q7. Do you offer your First Nations workforce a culturally safe Employee Assistance Program (EAP)?
Q8. Does your workplace cater for Sorry Business and Cultural obligations for First Nations staff?
Q9. Do you have a feedback loop for those suffering interpersonal or systemic racism in the workplace?
Q10. Are your staff trained to recognise a trauma response when dealing with clients?
If you have answered no, or if you are unsure, to three or more of the questions above, you would benefit from some specialised Culturally Safe, Trauma-Informed Practice Trainings.
